Drink to Shrink

Forego the diets. Drink H2O.

That's the weight-loss secret revealed in a University of California study.

When researchers reviewed the eating habits of 4,775 Americans, they found that those who drank about seven cups of water each day took in nearly 200 fewer calories than those who drank less than a glass of water each day.

About 20 percent of water intake comes from food and the rest from drinking water and beverages (caffeinated included). According to the study, those who drink less water eat more high-fat foods and often drink twice as many soft drinks.Other facts about water:

  • The daily recommendation is 2.7 liters of water for women and 3.7 liters for men.
  • 37 percent of Americans mistake thirst for hunger when their bodies really crave water and not food.
  • Recent studies show the lack of water is the number one trigger of daytime fatigue.
