Security Administration's Death Master File
The Social Security Administration's Death Master File is used by various
health care, financial services and other industries to identify and prevent
fraud and comply with the USA Patriot Act. Benefit plan administrators
can use the file to:
- Compare a benefits recipient list to the list of deceased persons.
- Verify a Social Security number at a time or run a list of thousands
of numbers at once.
- Confirm the date of death of retirees.
The file contains the names of 75 million persons whose deaths have been
reported to the SSA and is updated regularly.
