Short-Term Medical Insurance for College Graduates

Each year, thousands of college students become ineligible for coverage under their parents' plans when they graduate or leave school. An accidental injury or unexpected illness during this gap period can have long-lasting impact.

That's why short-term insurance is so important. Students can buy short-term medical policies to cover major medical expenses for as few as 30 days or as long as 185. Deductibles and coinsurance amounts vary, with single-payment or monthly-payment options available.

If it looks like your graduate's job search may be a long one, an individual medical plan may be the answer.

But if your child is healthy, and job prospects look good, a short-term medical plan can provide the solution until permanent insurance is in place. Short-term coverage works if you are between jobs, waiting for employer group coverage or recently unemployed and find COBRA too expensive.

For more information on insurance policies, contact your current insurer or visit Bluecrossblueshield.com, Healthinsurance.org or insure.com.
