Growing Old Baby Boomer Style

Hiring older workers just makes sense.

Consider these facts.

  • Today’s Boomers are expected to live longer than any previous generation. Since 1950, the death rate for heart disease has dropped by 60 percent and the death rate for stroke by 70 percent.
  • Baby Boomers make up 26 percent of the population and are aging slower than previous generations because of healthy habits such as exercise and not smoking.
  • A Towers Perrin study for the American Association of Retired Persons found that hiring older workers costs little while adding unusually motivated and loyal employees.
  • With American women having just over two children, there won’t be enough new employees entering the workforce to keep pace with demand.
